Rivets

A small metal rod used to attach a metal blade to its haft or to fasten two sheets of metal together. Each end of the rivet is spread and flattened by hammering after it has been passed through the two elements to be joined. A few riveted metal items have been found in Buckinghamshire, including an Iron Age spear found digging a cesspit at Hedsor Wharf and a tenth century strap fitting from Stowe.
