Ground penetrating radar
Ground radar is a survey method used to locate buried archaeological features. A device is use to emit electromagnetic radiation into the ground. When a solid object is encountered the radiation is ‘bounced’ or ‘echoed’ back upwards. The depth and extent of buried objects can be determined by measuring the ‘bounced’ back radiation. The only time ground penetrating radar has been used in Buckinghamshire is by Time Team at Chenies Manor.
