Market cross
A cross, located within a market place, often used to mark the site. Some consisted solely of a stone base and cross whilst others were more elaborate with a roof supported on columns or arches. Most market crosses that still stand today were either restored or erected in the post-medieval period and some consist of older crosses with more recent covering structures. Market crosses in Buckinghamshire are known in the old churchyard in Buckingham, and the square in Brill.
