Holy well

A holy well is a well or a spring that has a religious association and with allegedly curative waters. These were often a site of pilgrimage that may have a place of worship nearby or an elaborate surrounding and covering structure.

A well-studied example of a holy well in Buckinghamshire is St Rumbold's well in Buckingham, and St Mary's in North Marston was also an important medieval pilgrimage site.
