Blast pen

A structure, dating to World War Two, intended to protect aircraft when on an airfield. Commonly, blast pens were made of reinforced sandbag walls and were designed to prevent the aircraft being destroyed by nearby explosions during an enemy attack. More permanent designs were also constructed, made from brick walls and earthworks for example, and these tend to survive better.
