Description
SP 79343078. A few Early Iron Age sherds were found by E.J Bull and R.W Griffiths on a building site which has also exposed a probable Roman ditch and pit. The Roman material included a fragment of samian Dr 18/31, and part of a mortarium. Medieval pottery was also found and part of an impressed tile. NEW HOUSING DEVELOPMENT 150M SSW OF WOODEND FARM. THE SITE PRODUCED ?IRON AGE, ROMAN & MEDIEVAL POTTERY; TILE; SLAG; FRAGMENTS OF WHETSTONE & QUERN. (Acc Nos 235-236 72)(B1&2).NGR TO CENTRE OF SITE(B1).
Precise details not available; neither Bull nor Griffiths can be contacted (B5).
Further Roman pottery has been found during construction work at SP 79373073 and SP 79353070 (B6 and B7).
SP 793309 Belgic sherds and a quern were found by E.J. Bull at this location (B9).
