Description

An earthen vessel, unfortunatley broken, containing about 140 Roman small brass coins was discovered in 1857 during drainage near the site of the old Priory of Snelshall (SP 8134). The coins, all of which are in the possession of the Lord of the Manor (W S Lowndes) are principally of Gallienus, Tetricus Senr, Tetricus Junr, Claudius Gothicus and Victorinus. FOUND BY SOME DRAINERS ON BORDERS OF WHADDON CHASE (B1). 4 COINS GIVEN TO BCM (00:001-4)(B2-4). VIATORES ROMAN ROAD 175A PASSES HOARD SITE (B5).

Four coins, two of Victorinus and two of Claudius Gothicus, probably from the hoard, are in Bucks County Museum (Acc No 96.10) (B6).
