Description
THE AREA OF HAYDON HILL/HAYDON HILL RAILWAY CUTTING ABOUNDS IN FINDS OF ROMAN MATERIAL BUT THERE IS NO AP OR OTHER EVIDENCE TO INDICATE A SPECIFIC HABITATION SITE. FINDS DONATED TO BCM IN 1897 INCLUDED POTTERY, SPINDLE WHORLS ETC; IN ?1913 2 BOXES OF POTTERY & HORSESHOES. C3 COIN FOUND,1954.
A large quantity of remains from the Romano-British village at Haydon Hill, consisting of Roman pottery, spear-heads, spindle-whorls and a number of bones was presented to the Bucks Co Museum, 1897 by Mr S.G Payne, of Aylesbury (B1).
Fragments of Romano-British pottery, from the railway cutting at Haydon Hill (Centred SP 797145), were presented to the Bucks County Museum, in 1914, by Miss Payne.
(Although the area abounds in finds of Roman material there is no further literary or AP evidence to indicate a specific habitation site) (B2 and B5).
Coin of Postumus (258-67) found in Haydon Hill railway cutting, reported by G Abbey in 1954. (B6).
