Description

Dimensions - Length 20m, Width 11m.
BUILT 1886 BUT CONTAINS FITTINGS FROM OLD CHURCH (B1).
CONSISTS OF CHANCEL, NAVE, S AISLE & SW TOWER. CONSTRUCTED OF FLINTS WITH BRICK QUOINS & DRESSINGS TO WINDOWS. DESIGN DISTANTLY APPROACHING C13 (B2).
IN PROMINENT POSITION (B3).
Grade II. Parish Church. 1886. Flint with red brick dressings. Tiled roof with ornamental ridge tiles. Small s.w. tower with battlements and entrance doorway. Nave, aisles and chancel. Decorated style with plate tracery in stone. Interior contains C15 font and Brudenell monument c.1600 moved here from the old church. RCHM I p.282. MON.2. (contents) (B5).
Built 1865-6. Foundation stone laid on 25th April 1865 and church consecrated on 9th July 1866, both by Samuel Wilberforce, Bishop of Oxford. The architect was James Redland Taylor and the builder T Fitkin of Weston Turville. The total cost of the land and the building was £1,300. The new church contained most of the movable fittings from the old church including the five original bells, the 15th century font, the royal coat of arms and the 16th century Brudenell monument. The tower was rebuilt in the early 1920s and the whole church underpinned in the early 1930s (B6).
