1705, EMMANUEL WRIGHT OCCUPIED GUNPOWDER MILL; 1729, FRANCIS RANCE'S PAPER MILL (B1).
LEASE OF JUNE 1740 REFERS TO POWDER MILL HOUSE, WOOBURN (B2).
MARKED ON MAPS AT NGR. JEFFREYS' 1788 SHOWS A WATERMILL. BRYANT'S 1825 MAP SHOWS 'HIGHAMS GREEN & MILL'. OS 1ST EDITION 6-INCH MAP SHOWS 'GUNPOWDER MILL (PAPER)' (B3).
GUNPOWDER MILL, ALSO KNOWN AS EGGAM'S GREEN, OR JACKSON'S LOWER MILL, WAS A COMPLEX OF MILLS. BEFORE MID C19 MILL CONVERTED FROM MAKING GUNPOWDER TO A PAPER MILL. MESSRS JOHN H JACKSON ACQUIRED THE MILLS C.1870 FROM THE PEGG FAMILY BY MARRIAGE. NOW [1946] STEAM TURBINE OPERATED AND VERY EXTENSIVE (B4).
WORKED FROM 1763 ONWARDS. MILL STILL WORKED BY JACKSON'S MILL BOARD & FIBRE CO LTD (B6).
