Description

AT LEAST 2 HOUSE PLATFORMS VISIBLE ON AIR PHOTO (B1). PROBABLY 2 PLATFORMS BUT SOME DISTURBANCE AT E END - POSSIBLY QUARRYING. FIELD UNDER PASTURE (B2).

An area of shrunken settlement of medieval date is visible on historic aerial photographs as earthworks and was mapped as part of the North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18304). Located on the south side of Leckhampstead Road, Akeley, and centred at SP 70877 37491. Boundaries, perpendicular to the road, are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs, as well as an earthwork, parallel to the road, on the southern side. This area has been redeveloped for houses and gardens by 2000. Further earthworks of shrunken settlement are also recorded on the north side of the road approximately 180m to the east (see MBC7368).
