C 6-8 HOUSE PLATFORMS VISIBLE ON APS (B1).
FIELD VISIT 14/2/1977 FOUND PROBABLY 8 PLATFORMS, ON GENTLY SLOPING GROUND, WITH SOME ASSOCIATED TRACKWAYS. 2 IN THE SMALLER FIELD NEAR THE GRANGE QUITE WELL DEFINED (B2).
SITE C200M NW OF THE GRANGE; NGR TO CENTRE OF EARTHWORKS (B2).

Part of a shrunken settlement of medieval date is visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as earthworks and was mapped as part of the North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18304). Located south of Red House Farm, Beachampton, and centred at SP 477522 236704. Earthworks of parallel ditches, forming probable trackways, and plot boundaries along the road are visible on aerial photographs and on lidar visualisations. Plot boundaries are perpendicular to the road and areas of ridge and furrow come to the limit of the settlement earthworks. The lidar visualisations show uneven ground and modern aerial photographs show land use is pasture and the eastern end has been affected by construction of new buildings and a drive. No buildings are shown on the 1814 map at this location and field names recorded here are likely personal names attached to small holdings of land (Adkins and Elliotts). The 1771 estate map shows Pightles (small piece of land (Field p166). This parcel is crossed by a footpath, which is visible as a slight earthwork on lidar visualisations; this is another indicator of former settlement areas and more footpaths are shown on historic mapping.
