Description

Manor house, near the churchyard, an old plain building (B1).
Court Farm, 2 storeys & attic, almost entirely rebuilt in C18-C19 but 1 chimney stack with diagonal shafts is of c.1600 (B2).

Grade II. House. Late C18-early C19 remodelling of C16-C17 building. Red brick, rubble stone plinth with moulded brick coping, dentil eaves. S. front rendered. Old tile roof, hipped to right, with external brick chimney to left. Large C16-C17 stack to rear with rendered base and 2 brick shafts rebuilt C20, one set diagonally. 2 storeys and attic, 4 bays, that to right formerly an outbuilding. 4-pane sashes, renewed C20, C20 door in second bay. Rear has early C19 2-storey projection, whitewashed brick lean-to, and C20 attic dormers. Interior: partition between left bays has heavy timber framing with large curved brace; attic fireplace of plastered brick and timber with chamfered depressed arch; central first floor room reputed to have been court room. Watching brief carried out by John Moore Heritage Services in May 2010 during groundworks for extensions to house recorded the 1m deep limestone foundations of the 16th to 17th century building and a levelled building platform on which the 18th to 19th century ranges had been built. Two or three truncated medieval rubbish pits were also recorded. A free-standing rectangular brick built structure 2.1m X 1.6m may have been a septic tank. See report for detail (B5).
