Description

Dimensions - Width 12m, Length 125m.
Plan Form - Rectangular.
FISHPOND, C100M LONG N-S, C15M WIDE E-W. 15M SQUARE POND, S END. BANKS SUBSTANTIAL- C3M HIGH, 3-4M WIDE. CURVED BANK DIVERTED WATER FROM STREAM INTO OPENING ON N SIDE. IS AN OUTLET SW CORNER, & SW CORNER OF SMALLER POND. IN 1977 WAS DRY & IN EXCELLENT CONDITION (B3).

A fishpond and associated banks and ditches of medieval date are visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as extant earthworks and were mapped as part of the North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18304). Located approximately 110m north of Weatherhead Farm, Middle End, Leckhampstead, and centred at SP 73382 37459. The pond is visible as a long rectangular earthwork, 113x15m, with an earthwork bank around the outside. A sinuous water channel carries water from the River Leck to the pond and a short channel at the southern end rejoining the river. (7-10)
