Description

VILLAGE EARTHWORKS/HOUSE PLATFORMS VISIBLE ON AP'S (B1).
EXISTENCE OF A LARGE NUMBER OF PLATFORMS CONFIRMED INCLUDING 1 VERY LARGE & PROMINENT IN APPROX CENTRE OF AREA (B2).

Probable Medieval settlement earthworks including platforms and a possible hollow way can be seen centred at SP 6799 2091 on the northern edge of the modern linear village of Grendon Underwood. The extensive earthwork remains of ridge and furrow cultivation is visible to the north of the village. These features can be seen on aerial photographs taken in 2006 by English Heritage as part of the Reconnaissance Recording programme (3).
