A moat or possible fishpond of medieval date is visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as extant earthworks and was mapped as part of the Aylesbury Vale Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18604). Located approximately 300m south of the site of the manor house at Hall End, Stoke Mandeville, and centred at SP 82407 10637. The earthwork is visible as a long narrow, subrectangular depression on the south side of a watercourse which has been redirected around an almost right angled bend away from what was likely its natural course. The ditches are waterfilled and clearly visible in the winter of 1946 and again in 1967 but they appear mostly to have been infilled by 1994. If the earthworks were subrectangular then only three sides remain as an almost U shaped pond measuring 51x40m at its largest which remains visible on aerial photographs up to 2017 when mounds of soil can be seen piled near to it. By 2018 a new pond has been created to the east of the site of the former earthworks and this is the only earthwork visible on lidar visualisations. A field name recorded in the 1970s is water meadow; the pond is not shown on Ordnance Survey Epoch 1 mapping. (5-16)
