Description

SANTINGFIELD HOSPITAL WAS IN MOATED ENCLOSURE IN 3 ACRES OF FRIARS MEAD. UNITED WITH FARLEY HOSPITAL UNDER J DE ROKELE (B1-3).
ONLY EVIDENCE FOR IT IS MASTER OF FARLEY, 1296, CALLED M.OF FARLEY & LUDGERSHALL (B4,B7).
FOUNDED PRE 1236, DISSOLVED 1414? DEPENDENT ON SANTINGFIELD, FRANCE (B5).
UNLOCATED (B6).



Ludgershall. Lands here were granted to Santingfield before 1156 by Henry II and a hospital dependent on Farley, Bedfordshire was apparently built as in 1236 Henry III granted oaks to the master for the repair of his houses which had been burnt. In VCH 1 the existence of a separate hospital is considered uncertain, though a master of Farley and Ludgershall is recorded in 1295 Dissolution was circa 1414. (B4, B7, and B5)
