Description
HOUSE PLATFORMS, ?VILLAGE EARTHWORKS, 1 OR 2 OVA LENCLOSURES, SEEN ON AP (B5).
ON GROUND, FEATURES MUCH AS IN AP; NETWORK OF HOLLOW WAYS, &?PLATFORMS. LARGE ?PLATFORM ADJ TO MANOR FARM MAY REPRESENT FORMER MANOR HOUSE. SOME DISTURBANCE IN FIELD FROM CANAL CONSTRUCTION? NGR - EARTHWORKS CENTRE (B5).
(Area SP 921152) A DMV site? suggested by St Joseph seems rather unlikely as hollow ways overlie rig and furrow and there are no traces of house platforms (B7).
The pattern of enclosures bounded by linear hollows, as seen on St Joseph AP, are visible on the ground, although much reduced by ploughing. Rig and furrow runs under them suggesting that this was not a DMV site but rather extensive machine-cut drainage (B8).
A rapid examination of air photography shows the earthworks of the DMV/drainage (B9).
