Description

A 'Crown Inn' or hotel belonged to Richard Baldwin in 1486 (B3).
The Crown Hotel, a 2 storey, jettied, timber framed structure, was built in the early 16th century & almost completely rebuilt in the late 18th century (B2).
The building was much reduced in extent and subsequently altered when a new road [High Street] was built in 1826 (B1).
A series of ?early 16th century, early 17th century and early 19th century wall paintings, moulded beams and a Jacobean decorative overmantle found in 1932. See detailed description (B5).
Demolished in 1937 (B6).
The present Crown Tavern is entirely modern (B4).
