Description

ONLY 1 POND (OF 3) REMAINS, REDUG. LARGELY ARTIFICIAL BEING DAMNED WITH A LIMESTONE WALL ON S (1).
Aerial photogaphs taken in 1996 show that the site is more extensive than previously thought and there are indications of additonal buildings (3)

A medieval and/or post medieval pond is visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as earthworks and was mapped as part of the Aylesbury Vale Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18604). Located in a field immediately W of Pasture Farmhouse and centred at SP 77009 10938, an irregularly shaped pond about 136 metres N-S and 58 metres W-E at its widest points covers an area about 8,267 square metres. Whether this is a medieval fishpond or pond that has been repurposed as a post-medieval ornamental pond is unclear, but its equidistance to two moated sites in Dinton make it likely to have an earlier origin (4-5).
