Description

RIFLE BUTT SHOWN ON MAPS. MARKS 'RIFLE BUTT' IN E HALF OF 'FRIZZLES GROUND' (B1).
1884 1st edition 6-inch and 1880 25-inch OS maps show firing positions at 100, 150, 200, 250, 400, 500, 600, 650, 700 and 800 yards, with the butt earthworks and position of the mantlets. 1st edition 6-inch OS map labels range as 'Volunteers' Rifle Range' (B2).
