SP 73451222 : Village earthworks house platforms and probable hollow-way identified and plotted by Mrs J Strong in 1975 (B12).
These earthworks survive as vague undulations in much ploughed pasture within the village of Lower Winchendon. They average some 0.4m in height but seem to form no coherent pattern. M Farley (a) confirms the area as one of shrinkage but considers the identification of individual plots and platforms uncertain (B13).
The extensive earthwork remains of village earthworks described by the previous authorities were seen centred at SP 7326 1188 in the form of platforms and hollow ways. Further earthworks of a large rectilinear platform could be seen to the west of the main village centre at SP 7307 1193. Extant ridge and furrow extends south of this platform to the river. A number of fields of ridge and furrow extend south of the village beyond the river (into the adjacent parish of Cuddington). These features were recorded from aerial photographs taken in November 2006 by English Heritage as part of the Reconnaissance Recording programme (B14).
NRHE inseet 2009, update 2004 (B15).
