Description

Plan Form - CIRCULAR
SINGLE CIRCLE (PLOTTED) (B1).
POSSIBLE RING DITCH VISIBLE ON A/P'S. IT IS, HOWEVER, A SMALL CIRCLE ON GRASSLAND; OTHER SIMILAR MARKS SHOW ON PHOTOS. PERHAPS A FAIRY RING. NOT PLOTTED (B2).
RCHME REPORT (B3).
A detailed gradiometer survey carried out by Wessex Archaeology successfully located numerous anomalies of archaeological interest. The most interesting of these are two concentric annular anomalies appearing to form part of a barrow cemetery with two ring ditches identified by the previous WA geophysical survey. Near the northeastern extent of the survey area a sub-annular anomaly some 12m in diameter is consistent with the response from a roundhouse (B4).

SU 8485 SU 88 NW Area centred SU 844855 MARLOW Single circle. NMR 70 SU 8485/5/108. (1)

The following feature was mapped from good quality air photographs:-

Potential Bronze Age round barrow, seen as a cropmark. Morphological description: a subcircular enclosure, diameter 10m, defined by 1 ditch. Centred at:-SU 8441 8546 (Morph No. TG.502.1.1).

This description has been generated from the RCHME MORPH2 database. The NGR recorded by source (1) is incorrect and has been deleted as a more accurate NGR has been generated in the course of the NMP project. At the time of plotting, there were doubts about the validity of this site, suggesting that it may prove to be a fungus ring on more detailed examination (see the site record form for NGR SU 841 855 in the project archive for SU 88 NW) (B5).
