Summary

Medieval churchyard cross at Boarstall church, restored in the nineteenth century -Medieval cross situated south of the Church of St James. The socket stone and the base of the shaft are original, while the plinth and the top of the shaft are modern. Both socket and shaft are octagonal with broach stops.

Description

CHURCHYARD CROSS; OCTAGONAL BASE, WITH BROACH STOPS and part of an octagonal shaft, 15th century. The upper part and cross are modern (B6).
Grade II. Churchyard cross. Medieval base and lower part of shaft, the top totally restored C19. Stone. Both base and shaft are octagonal with broach stops. RCHM I p.57. Mon. 1 (part)(B13).


(SP 62481414) On the south side of the church at Boarstall is the base and about 5ft of the shaft of an ancient stone cross (B4).

At SP 62491415 is a restored cross comprising a modern plinth, 1.5m square, upon which is a medieval socket stone, 0.8m square and 0.7m high, broached to form an octagonal top. The original shaft, 1.3m in height, is square to octagonal and is completed by a further 1.6m of modern work.
