Description
RING DITCH VISIBLE AS CROPMARK ON ST JOSEPH A/P (B1).
OTHER POSSIBLE ASSOCIATED FEATURES ALSO VISIBLE. EXACT NGR DIFFICULT TO CALCULATE DUE TO LACK OF DISTINGUISHABLE LANDMARKS ON A/P (B2).
A ring ditch of uncertain date is visible on historic aerial photographs as extant cropmarks and was mapped as part of the Aylesbury Vale Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18604). Located approximately 500m west of the site of Notley Abbey, Long Crendon, and centred at SP 71032 09257. The ring ditch is visible as a cropmark situated on an area of higher ground overlooking the course of the River Thame approximately 500m to the south west. It measures approximately 23m in diameter and is visible on photos from 2010 and 2015. The underlying solid geology is Purbeck Limestone overlain with Superficial Deposits of Head. (3-4)
