Description

OVATE TYPE HANDAXE. WELL MADE, SOFT HAMMER TECHNIQUE. POSSIBLY MADE ON A FLAKE. PART OF TIP BROKEN IN ANTIQUITY. THICK OCHREOUS PATINA. HEAVILY ROLLED. FOUND BY MR W WRIGHT IN 1890'S AT SIDE OF ROAD, POSSIBLY IN HEAP OF ROAD-MENDERS' GRAVEL (B1).
TYPICAL MID ACHEULIAN TYPE (B2-3).
Site mentioned in English Rivers Palaeolithic Survey, probably an import (B4-5).
