SP 61851403. A mound with a ditch traceable on W and S, re-cut as a pond on the W. Possible house site adjacent on E side. Mill-mound? (B4).

The mound is situated on a broad ridge above Boarstall village at about 300ft OD. It is 18.0m in diameter and 1.7m high with a slightly dished top 8.0m across. A ditch 3.0m wide and 0.3m deep extends around the N and E, but a pond has obliterated any traces on the W side. On the E side a slightly raised platform, 16.0m by 8.0m may represent a building site. A bank about 8.0m across and 0.4m high extends S from the mound to the present road, a distance of 35.0m; on its W side a shallow gulley carries overflow from the pond. The bank seems a possible access tract to the mound (which is undoubtedly a medieval mill mound) but is cut by the broad rig and furrow. This has not encroached upon the building platform because of its situation at the edge of the field. However it seems possible that the mill was abandoned before the introduction of the rig and furrow.
Surveyed at 1:2500 on PFD (B5).
