Description

EXTENSIVE GROUP OF FINDS FROM HOUSING DEVELOPMENT WORK SHOWS AREA WAS UTILIZED FROM LATE IRON AGE TO LATE C4 AD. SETTLEMENT ADJACENT TO PROBABLE FORD & APPARENTLY NEVER VERY SUBSTANTIAL. HOWEVER, ROMAN MILITARY METALWORK, 200 PLUS COINS, & A VOTIVE OBJECT SUGGEST IT HAD SPECIAL FUNCTIONS? (B6).
There appears to be one main, rectilinear enclsoure, with a reverse D-shaped enclsoure appended to its south-west corner. There is a meandering ditch to the north. Inside the enclsoure is a possible ring ditch and pit-like responses(B9)
Late prehisitoric pits and ditches identified during trial trench evaluation (B10).

SP 81101190 (centred) Romano British site (B11).
