Description

'CASTLE DITCH ALLEGED TO HAVE BEEN PART OF DITCH SURROUNDING ANCIENT CASTLE (LOCAL TRADITION)(B1). 'CASTLE DITCH' MARKED ON OS MAP (B2).
POSITION DOES NOT ACCORD WITH INFORMATION ON 1620 MAP SHOWING 'CASTLE DITCHES' FURTHER TO W. NO DOCUMENTARY EVIDENCE YET FOUND FOR EXISTENCE OF CASTLE IN WENDOVER (B3).


(SP 86520877 SP 86730833) Castle Ditch (NR) (B4).
A ditch on the E side of Aylesbury Street supposed to have partly surrounded a castle site (B5).
No trace of the ditch was found along this built-up stretch of Aylesbury Street. However, the name is perpetuated in 'Castle Park Rd' nearby. The enclosure map of c1795 shows no significant names or detail (B6).
