Description
ENTRY IN LINCOLN DIOCESE RECORDS CONFIRMS TRADITION OF CHAPEL IN CHAPEL FIELD, HOLLYWICKS (B1-2). 1518 REPORT ON WOODEND CHAPEL SAYS 'IT WAS SERVED BY MONK FROM MEDMENHAM ABBEY, WHO OWNED IT.' CHAPEL PROFESSED TO A MINISTER FROM MOOR COMMON (DET. LEWKNOR)(B2).
NO TRACE OF CHAPEL ON GROUND (B3).
Site of ancient chapel in Chapel-field, Holywick (SU 808 876) (B4).
The records of Lincoln Diocese confirm the tradition of a chapel at Chapel Field, Wood End, in the meadow where Hollywicks stands, within 100 yards of the parish boundary. It was so called because the farm belonged to Medmenham Abbey. A report dated 1518 states that the chapel was served by a Cistercian monk. It perished after the Dissolution. (B5)
No trace of a chapel at Holywick; but for one barn, all farm buildingsare demolished (B6).
