Description
CROPMARKS OF ENCLOSURE DITCHES; NO TRACE OF CROPMARK ON GROUND; SITUATION IS LEVEL FIELD WITHIN MARKET GARDEN WITH GRAVEL SUBSOIL. PURPOSE & DATE UNKNOWN. NO FINDS (B1).
FIELD WALKED: NO FINDS. AREA CONSTANTLY DEEP-PLOUGHED FOR HORTICULTURE (B2).
SKETCH PLOTTED AT 1:2500 (NOT ENOUGH CONTROL POINTS)(B3-4).
SU 919804 Crop marks of enclosure ditches 1 1/4 mile SW of Burnham (B5).
No trace of the crop-mark on the ground, the situation is a level field within a market garden with a gravel sub soil. Its purpose cannot be ascertained from the AP, and no finds have been made (B6).
The features described by the previous authorities comprise ditched boundaries, possibly the remains of fields, of unkown date, visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs. Perpendicular boundaries, and three boundaries in a disordered pattern are visible which measure from 60m to 170m. They are centred at SU 9190 8041, SU 9198 8036 and SU 9193 8030.
