Description

HEAVILY CORRODED, SLIGHTLY HUNCHED APPEARANCE. SPINE ONCE DECORATED, NOW COMPLETELY CORRODED. PLAIN CATCH PLATE. DETAIL OF SPRING OBSCURED. DATE POSSIBLY EARLY C2 AD. (BI1). FOUND APPROX 2.5CM FROM FLESH HOOK, C.150MM FROM SURFACE(BI1&2).


An early 2nd century iron bow brooch and a possibly contemporary socketed iron flesh hook were found about 1 foot apart and about 6" deep in Giles Wood by T R Smith in 1974 (B1). Smith's indicated find spot on the Bucks Co Museum 6" sheet, is at SP 82700416. Acc No 280.74 (B4).
Smith was able to indicate the find spot on the ground at SP 82720423. Surveyed at 1:2500 (B2).
