Description
APS TILL 1953 SHOWED POOR QUALITY DMV SITE. VISIT 1955 FOUND PLOUGHED FLAT (B5).
NOTHING VISIBLE ON RAF APS OR ST JOSEPH LM 13. DMV OF ASTON MULLINS SP769 083 (B6).
MISTAKEN SITING (CONFUSION DUE TO FARM HAVING MOVED?). GROUND W & S OF MOAT HAS EARTHWORKS MUCH MORE LIKELY TO BE ASTON MULLINS DMV (B7).
An area of shrunken settlement of medieval/post medieval date is visible on historic aerial photographs and/or remote sensing data as extant earthworks and was mapped as part of the Aylesbury Vale Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18604). Located approximately 800m west of Aston Mullins House, Dinton-with-Ford and Upton, and centred at SP 76261 08526. Earthworks of probable plot boundaries, building platforms and roads/trackways can be seen as indistinct earthworks on aerial photographs and lidar visualisations. Earthworks of ridge and furrow field systems extend to the south around the earthworks and towards a further area of shrunken or deserted settlement visible as building platforms and boundaries to the east. The features in the earthworks are not very clear and appear to have been levelled in the past. Smoothed but uneven ground can be seen in places. A possible road crossed the site. Further investigation would be needed to understand this site better. (8-18)
