Description

TURNPIKE AT HAZLEMERE CROSSROADS SHOWN ON 1781 MAP (B1).
1788 MAP SHOWS 'TURNPIKE' APPROX AT NGR (B2).
TURNPIKE DEMOLISHED C.1934. REMEMBERED BY INFORMANT'S MOTHER. SITED APPROX AT NGR (B3).
Jefferies marks a 'turnpike' west of Wycombe Heath, at the junction with the road S. to Penn (SU 891 955): it is named as 'Terriers' gate on the Notice of Expiry of the trust in November 1881, probably so called after Terriers House a mile to the W. (B4).
