Description
BLACKGROVE- DOMESDAY INCLUDED UNDER WADDESDON (B1).
2 FARMS AT BLACKGROVE REPRESENTING 2 MANORIAL ESTATES. DISTINCTION BETWEEN EYTHROPE PROPER & BLACKGROVE TRACEABLE FROM MID C13 (B2).
BLACKGROVE DESERTED C16-17 NOW REMAINS AS SINGLE FARM (B3).
Remains of a medieval/post medieval deserted settlement is visible on remote sensing data as earthworks and was mapped as part of the Aylesbury Vale Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18604). Located in fields between Blackberry Farm Animal Centre (RSPCA) and Blackgrove Farm House and centred at SP 76496 18701, the earthworks comprise interconnected ditches that form a series of irregularly shaped ditched enclosures, amongst which are a number of rectilinear and irregularly shaped platforms, the largest being rectilinear and about 58 x 31 metres. On aerial photographs taken in 2015, the earthworks are visible (5-6).
