Description
OS MAP 1878/85 SHOWS SMALL COMPLEX OF BUILDINGS INNARROW CLOSE RUNNING NW-SE.DISAPPEARED PRE-1958 AS NOT ON MAPS FROM THAT DATE(BI1).FOOTINGS MOSTLY LI MESTONE SOME BRICK EXPOSED IN SMALL DITCH/TRACKWAY RUNNING PARALLEL TO MAIN STREET(BI2).
Fragment of a homestead moat in Bury field, SE of the church. (Probably the fragment shown on OS 6" 1958 at SP 71761707) (B4).
The field to the south east of the church is called 'Church Chase' (b6) and at SP 71761707 is a fragment of a homestead moat. Only the north west and part of the south west arms remain. They are waterfilled with a max depth of 0.9m and a max width of 16.0m. The island is slightly higher than the surrounding area but no trace of a building was found. There is no outlet but an inlet can be seen in the south west corner. Surveyed at 1:2500 on AM (B5).
