Description

Dimensions - Width 9000 mm
A considerable number of Roman sherds have been found at Chesham since 1958, distribution covering an area in the SW of the town (Area: SP 957012). The Rackleys site (SP 956012) was discovered during the building of a house. The sherds ranged from the late 1st century to the early 4th century SITE HAD EVERY APPEARANCE OF BEING RUBBISH PIT PRODUCED LARGE AMOUNT OF FINDS OF WHICH ONLY SMALL PROPORTION RECOVERED INDICATIONS PIT MAY BEEN DUG IN MID 2 CENT. About 30ft diameter. No sign of any building was found (B1).
FOUND BY MR A STRATFORD discovered and retained the pottery sherds, including coarse ware and samian, of over a hundred vessels (B1).
