A possible medieval and/or post medieval moat is visible on remote sensing data and was mapped as part of the Aylesbury Vale Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18604). Located within woodland W of Silk Street, about 140 metres W of Prince’s Lodge and centred at SP 74036 16662, a slightly trapezoidal ditch varies between 1.8 and 13 metres wide: its SW facing side is 67 metres long aligned NNW-SSE: its NW facing side is along the course of a trackway and 50.5 metres long aligned SW-NE: its NE facing side is 58 metres long aligned NW-SE, but no corner is visible and does not connect with the SE facing side: the SE facing side is fragmentary, three lengths of ditch covering 50 metres aligned SW-NE, but the absence of a corner means it does not meet the NE facing side. Around the inside of the ditch on the SW,NW and NW facing sides is an earthworks bank. The same three sides follow the course of old enclosure boundary lines recorded on the 1st Edition OS map dated 1880, now removed. Available historic aerial photography shows that the site lay within woodland during the 20th century and remains not visible on aerial photographs taken in 2023. It could only be mapped by recent remote sensing data. Centred some 18 metres from the S facing corner of the moat ditch is an irregularly shaped ditch 22 metres in diameter at its widest that may be associated (6-8).
