Description

Plan Form - OCTAGONAL
Wingrave Churchwardens' Accounts for 1741 refer to miller: 'Pd. Sarah Brooks for beer on ye miller a/c 1/-'; 'Pd. Wm. Druce for beer on ye miller a/c 1/-'. (B1).
Maps of 1825 & c.1847 mark a windmill approx at NGR (B2-3).
Reference to improvement & repair of mill noted from 'Aylesbury News' 4 December 1841: 'Wingrave Mill. The mill having undergone extensive improvements & repairs, Wm. Burton begs to inform his friends that he will work night & day (wind permitting) to fetch up his arrears of grinding. Goods fetched & carried any reasonable distance, strict attention paid to the wants of his customers & moderate charges' (B4).
A large windmill…at Whitchurch…was found not to answer and was removed and set up at Wingrave (B5).
Smockmill on a stone base, body of unusual tapered octagonal shape, of medium height. Dome shaped cap, cloth sails. 2 pairs of stones of c.4ft. [Further description](B6).
Site of windmill was at NGR. NB name 'Windmill Farm' in vicinity (B7).
