Description
Grade II. Statue. Dated 1714. Of Sir Robert Clayton. Stone. Rectangular pedestal with moulded base and cornice, moulded inscription panels to sides, and front carved with 2 putti holding wreathed coat-of-arms of the City of London. Life-size figure of Sir Robert Clayton in robes and chain of office of Lord Mayor of London. Inscription records erection of statue by Governor of Christ's Hospital, London, to commemorate Clayton as benefactor of the new Work-house there. Moved from original site at Hospital, probably c.1900 (B5).
