Description

Dimensions - Length 0400 m
Plan Form - LINEAR
WYCOMBE SITUATED ON ANCIENT ROAD FORMING SHORT CUT BETWEEN THAMES & ICKNIELD WAY (B1).
OS MARKS 'BRITISH WAY' (B2).
CLEARLY PREDECESSOR OF PRESENT AMERSHAM HILL. CAN BE TRACED ACROSS PRIVATE GARDENS UPHILL. AT MOST POINTS BROAD SHALLOW HOLLOW WAY. AT SU86899329 FILLED IN & BUILT OVER (B4).

Centred at SU 8667 9325 British Way (NR). (B5)

Shown on map of a High Wycombe at 'British Way' and is apparently that road referred to in the text as an ancient road forming a short cut between the Thames at Hedsor and Icknield Way, but clearly the predecessor of the present Amersham Hill. (B6)

Add ref: Ro or pre: Ro Rd. (B3)

Remains of an old road can be traced across private gardens up the hill from High Wycombe Railway Stn., and roughly parallel to the W. side of Amersham Hill, from SU 8681 9315 to SU 8700 9352.
At most points it is seen as a broad shallow hollow way but at SU 86859322 and at SU 87009351, the hollow way is marked. The published stretch at SU 86899329 has been filled in and built over (B7).
