Description
BRANCH EXTENDED FROM CHURCH SIDING AROUND THE DUKE OF BUCKINGHAM'S ESTATE TO KINGSWOOD LANE (B1).
BY CHURCH AT WOTTON TRAMWAY LEFT QUAINTON ROAD TO BRILL TRACK OF MET & GT CENTRAL JOINT RAILWAY. LIGHT EMBANKMENTS & SHALLOW CUTTINGS STILL VISIBLE [IN 1968] BETWEEN SP 685 178 & SP 690 175. REMAINDER MARKED BY FENCES (B2).
A one-and-a-half-mile long branch from Church Siding served Moat Farm [Kingswood Lane]. Construction began on 8th September 1870, with Quainton Road to Wotton opened on 1st April 1871, and the greater portion of the remainder of the line opened for mineral and agricultural traffic in November 1871. The Moat Farm branch [to Kingswood Lane] closed in 1910 (B5).
The OS 1st and 2nd edition 25-inch maps show the terminus of the Kingswood branch of the Wotton tramway as a single track line with one siding and a building fronting onto Kingswood Lane. The line had been dismantled by 1919 (OS 25-inch edition of 1921) (B7).
