Description
2 early-middle Bronze Age ring ditches, one about 12m in diameter with a ditch 0.48-0.7m wide and 0.43m-0.6m deep was only partly excavated; the other more oval 6.4m X 5.6m, with a ditch 0.35-0.8m wide and 0.02m-0.9m deep. The heavily truncated remains of 6 possible cremation pits, only 1 of which had cremated bone and 3 had charcoal surviving in the fills, were recovered from the smaller, oval ring ditch. A gully recorded on the haul road contained 2 small sherds of Beaker pottery.
A series of 4 or 5 small rectangular ditched fields or paddocks, aligned NW-SE and measuring 110-130m long and 45-50m wide, some with possible entrances and an associated gully and row of 5 postholes which may have been a fence-line. 8 isolated pits and 1 posthole were also identified in excavations. See report for detail (B2).
