Description
A 19th century Coal Duty Boundary Marker, located in the front garden of Savay Farmhouse. This had previously stood on the east side of the river by the bridge over the Colne at Savay Farm, but was moved in 1962. This example is a type 2e, which is a square cast iron post with chamfered corners, a puramidal top and decorative raised bands, showing 3-4 feet above ground and bearing the arms of the City of London, and an inscription '24 & 25 VICT/CAP 42'. The maker's name and date (Henry Grissell, Regents Canal Ironworks, London, 1862) is in an oval at the base on the back of the post (B1).
