Description

Building work on Adams Park, the new home of Wycombe Wanderers, started in March 1989. The new ground was dedicated to the memory of Frank Adams, their former captain, and opened on 9 August 1990. The long, low rear of the Main Stand, in tasteful brick with roundel windows and a pitched, slate roof, contains a fitness centre, most of the clubs facilities, a banqueting suite and the Centre Spot pub. The actual stand itself holds 1,267 seats on seven rows, fed from steel stairways along the front and raised above a flat path for standing spectators along the perimeter rail. In the nort-east is a detached block. This houses the club shop and, on the upper floor, two flats occupied by the pub manager and the groundsman. As of 1995, the other three stands were terraced, and built to fairly basic specifications, with cantilevered roofs of only 6 metre spans. With this being somewhat inadequate, the club's plans for expansion were approved in October 1995. These entailed the removal of the Woodlands Terrace roof (opposite the Main Stand) so that an extra tier could be built into the hillside, to provide a two tier South Stand of 5,000 seats with 20 executive boxes. The Valley Terrace and the Hillbottom Terrace have now been converted to seating (B1).
