Description

Site of a menagerie in West Wycombe Park. A broad drive leads to the east of the house and is flanked to both north and south by woodland compartments. The northernmost of these was the location for a menagerie identified by the letter 'c' on the 1752 Jolivet map. It is depicted as a triangular compartment in the woods to the east of the house, south of the eastern walk, approached by several minor paths. The area is divided into four unequal plots, at least one of which is shown containing a minor building. No evidence for this now survives on the ground and it is possible that the menagerie was planned but never realised (B13).
