Description

Geophysics survey identified anomalies representing ditches, enclosures and trackways of a likely Iron Age to Roman settlement (B1).
An extensive system of Late Iron Age to Roman ditches forming enclosures, trackways, and field boundaries. Pottery and coins indicate activity from the Middle to Late Iron Age through to the 4th century. Finds of Roman brick and possible tegula suggest a structure existed nearby. Finds of animal bone were limited, although some fragments showed evidence of butchery, with chop marks identified. Two pits produced Early to Middle Saxon pottery, suggesting some continued activity into the 5th–7th/8th centuries. Later features include medieval to post-medieval furrows of ridge and furrow cultivation, a post-medieval boundary ditch, and remains of a modern quarry (B2).
