Description

ROMAN OCCUPATION SITE. FINDS CONSIST OF SCATTERS OF LIMESTONE & BUNTER PEBBLES, ROMAN SHERDS INCLUDING SAMIAN. ALL CAME FROM A VERY BLACK TOPSOIL AREA, SUGGESTING HABITATION, AT NGR. NO TILES. OLD GRAVEL WORKINGS IN FIELD CENTRE (B1-2).
J Southernwood and R W Griffiths cannot be contacted. According to D C Mynard, RB wall plaster, tile, coins and pottery were found at the approximate site indicated by Authy 1, but neither the date of the finds now their present whereabouts are known. No finds made during perambulation. (B3/B5).



SP 85763031. A scatter of black soil with burnt pebbles and fragments of limestone, and c 12 Ro sherds including Samian were found by Mr J Southernwood and R W Griffiths in March 1973. (Only ploughed down rig-and-furrow visible on RAF APs) (B4).
