Description

Aircraft BB736 was a De Havilland Tiger Moth British trainer. It was one of 123 such aircraft impressed from civillian use by the Royal Air Force between September 1940 and January 1941. Previous civillian registration was G-ADXB. It was part of 1 squadron Elementary Flying Training School. The aircraft collided in the air with Blenheim V6360, crashing at Aston Clinton on 19th June 1941 (1).

The aircraft was first registered as G-ADXB on 13th November 1935, as was used by the De Havilland Flying School at Hatfield. Re-numbered BB736 was impressed into RAF service on 30th October 1940. Issued to 13 EFTS, based at White Waltham, near Maidenhead, Berkshire. On 20.12.40 it moved with the unit to RAF Peterborough. Thence back to 1 EFTS, at RAF Panshanger, Hertfordshire. The pilot, Leading Aircraftman Victor Louis Deroo of West Kirby near Liverpool, was killed in the crash and is buried in Halton churchyard. The Blenheim aircrew survived the crash, made a safe emergency landing and the aircraft was repaired and returned to service (3).
