Description

A possible group of hut circles were seen as cropmarks by P J Mackay from Whiteleaf Cross on the outskirts of Princes Risborough (Area SP 814038 sited from sketch plan in ONB). There were four circles, two squares and some indistinguishable mounds. The circles appeared as slight hollows on the ground, about 15 ft across with a dark rim of about 2 ft 6 inches in breadth. A considerable amount of Roman brick, and a few sherds of a black gritty texture were found on the surface of the field [see 0214200001]. (Nothing visible on available air photographs (RAF: 1946)) (B1).
Air photographs show a cropmark of a possible ovoid enclosure of indeterminable dimensions centred in area SP 8148 0385 (b3). Nothing significant was found on a natural rise of ground in an undulating area under stubble (B2).
